Overview
Referrals are only as good as the images that come with them. Our imaging service keeps every image with the patient's referral, in one standard format, ready to view wherever the clinician is.
- 6,000+ images stored every day
- Any format taken in and converted to DICOM
- Zero footprint viewing in a web browser
Arcovis PACS
Our own cloud PACS
Arcovis is our bespoke picture archiving and communication system (PACS), built on secure, encrypted cloud imaging storage. It stores more than 6,000 images every day, from retinal photographs and OCT scans to dental radiographs and CBCT scans.
Linked to the patient and the referral
Every image is stored against the patient's NHS number and the referral it came with, and all of a referral's images are grouped into one study, so clinicians see the whole picture in one place.
Taking in every image
DICOM and every other format
DICOM images are taken in as they are. Photographs and other image formats, such as JPEG and PNG, are converted to DICOM, recording what kind of image it is, the part of the body and, for eyes, which eye, so every image in our PACS can be handled the same way.
Checked on the way in
Every file is scanned for malware before it is stored, and patients are matched against their NHS record using the Personal Demographics Service, so images are filed against the right person.
From secondary care too
As well as images sent with referrals from primary care, we can take in images from secondary care, so hospital imaging sits alongside the rest of the patient's record.
Viewing images
MedDream zero-footprint viewer
Images open in the MedDream viewer in a web browser, with no software to install. Clinicians open it straight from the referral, without a separate PACS login, and get diagnostic viewing tools wherever they are.
Any primary care setting
Because nothing needs installing, PACS images can be viewed in any primary care setting: dental and optical practices, GP practices, community services and triage teams.
3D CBCT viewer
Our 3D viewer opens cone beam CT (CBCT) scans in the browser, so clinicians can explore the volume in three dimensions and slice through it in any plane, without specialist software.
Sharing with hospitals
Image Exchange Portal (IEP)
Our IEP integration sends images from our PACS to hospitals through the Image Exchange Portal, the network NHS hospitals use to share images, so the hospital team has the scans with the referral, with no discs to post and no need to repeat imaging.
Standards
Fully DICOM compliant
Our PACS is a fully DICOM-compliant system, using the international standard for medical imaging to store, exchange and view images, and DICOMweb for access over the web. Its DICOM conformance statement sets out exactly what it supports and is available on request.
