Achieving Electronic Eye Care Referrals at Scale
Project Overview
RMSL’s role in enhancing the NHS England’s Electronic Eye Care Referral programme (EeRS), is pivotal in modernising national eye care referrals.
Our service across Mid and South Essex and three North West Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), in collaboration with Primary Eyecare Services, has utilised the OPERA platform to enable electronic referrals from optometrists to specialised healthcare services efficiently.
Our work focused on integrating the OPERA platform with the NHS spine, NHS eRS and NHS mail to streamline the referral process by minimising the number of IT systems involved. This strategic move not only simplified operations for healthcare providers, but also enhanced the referral pathway’s efficiency.
